A2EI Data Supports Clean Electric Cooking
Is it possible to replace charcoal and biomass cooking by clean e-cooking – thus avoiding deforestation, household air pollution, and massive carbon emissions?
We began our research on clean electric cooking a few years ago in over ten different countries. Working with partners around the world, we have gathered data directly from households, conducted ample research and published several reports on how electric cooking appliances are used. We generally observed high adoption rates of electric pressure cookers (EPCs), steady usage rates at lower electricity rates, and substantial time savings of e-cooking.
We are now focussing on analysing the aggregate demand of EPCs in grid environments. What if EPCs became the main cooking device in a country? Could this mean the end of charcoal, and what grid measures would be needed to cater for the new load? With the support of the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet, the A2EI is building a so-called “Appliance Demand Platform” to investigate.
