DATA DRIVING ENERGY ACCESS

Prospect

An open-source digital public good that collects, harmonises, and analyses energy data through a secure, collaborative platform – transforming data into actionable intelligence.

The data comes from modern sustainable energy solutions — national grids, mini grids, solar systems, productive use appliances, and clean cooking technologies — and from the smart meters, IoT devices, mobile money, and other digital systems behind them, giving a unified and verifiable view of energy access and transition programs.

With Prospect, companies can securely share data, generate valuable insights, and unlock access to finance. Subsidy programs and investors can access verified results, while governments can confidently monitor the real-time state of electrification across their countries.

Prospect is developed by A2EI with the support of GET.invest and is co-funded by the European Union, Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Austria.

SWIFT ACCESS TO INVENTORY FINANCE

GGF — continuous inventory financing

A results-based inventory finance facility supporting solar distributors to access swift, flexible funding – reducing investor risk while enabling businesses to grow at their own pace.

GGF addresses the financing gap that prevents smaller solar distributors from meeting the demand for larger systems, which often involve high ticket sizes, complex due diligence, and costly transactions.

Financing is continuous and open to distributors with a proven track record, released in iterative tranches against delivered results, with due diligence fast-tracked at each step.

Real-time, transparent monitoring of credit performance and repayments via Prospect increases investor confidence and enables capable distributors to expand operations.

HARDWARE PROTOTYPES, TESTING, AND QA

Solar generator program

A data-driven program testing and deploying solar generators across sub-Saharan Africa, replacing polluting fossil fuel gensets with reliable, locally adapted hardware.

The data behind it is granular — smart meter readings, emissions, and real-world usage — and it is what we used to design the units themselves, first in Nigeria and then beyond. Market studies and technical testing showed strong demand and a viable commercial case, enabling our shift from technology developer to market enabler.

We now support manufacturers and distributors with research-driven hardware recommendations, local testing and QA, secure metering and digital monitoring, and financing linkages to scale affordable, reliable solar generators.

Through the Repairability Alliance, we connect manufacturers, distributors, service providers, organisations and funders through a shared repair platform. By bringing together field knowledge, operational data and manufacturer insight, we support every partner in making informed product design decisions and build more sustainable, circular value chains.

HUMANITARIAN ENERGY & ENERGY AS A SERVICE

ZERO

A headache-free solar utility tariff for humanitarian organisations — financing, building, and operating solar-plus-battery systems that replace costly diesel generators.

Every year UN organisations spend USD 100m on generator fuel — a huge cost and major source of CO2.

Local partners install and maintain the systems, and organisations pay no capex: instead of an upfront investment they get a single long-term tariff, lower and more predictable than diesel.

Launched with UN sites in Chad, ZERO delivers 24/7 clean power, eliminates fuel convoys and generator noise, and cuts CO2 from day one — scalable to thousands of humanitarian, commercial, and industrial sites while hedging fuel price volatility.

HEALTHIER COOKING — COMBATING DEFORESTATION

Clean cooking program

Researching and promoting alternatives to polluting biomass cooking — supporting partners and households with data, monitoring, and project development.

Only about 17% of people in Africa have access to clean cooking; most rely on biomass and charcoal, harming health and driving deforestation.

That work reaches dozens of partners and thousands of households, businesses, and institutions, and covers polluting fossil cooking as well as biomass. Alongside remote monitoring, data collection, and analysis, we built the Appliance Demand Platform to aggregate appliance energy data and reveal demand and infrastructure insights.

The research itself examines induction adoption, tariff and pricing effects on appliance use, user behavior and grid stability, links to national climate commitments, RBF program management, and strategies to improve affordability and scale.
